Instead of getting another World Heavyweight Championship opportunity, he’ll have to do battle with The Celtic Warrior Sheamus.

WWE COO Triple H made the match on the Sept. 26 edition of Raw, after Christian threatened him with a lawsuit for how he’s been running WWE. The Game is just another in a long list of those who have been forced to listen to Christian’s pleas for one more match.

But with such a formidable opponent, could Christian live to regret being given this match?

Sheamus is a former WWE Champion, former U.S. Champion, the 2010 King of the Ring – and perhaps the toughest Superstar in all of WWE. If there’s anyone who knows what Sheamus is capable of it’s Triple H – who was brutally attacked from behind by Sheamus with a steel pipe in 2010.

Although some may question Triple H’s decision making as of late, if you’re tired of hearing from Christian, you’ve got to love this call by The Game. If anyone can finally silence Christian, there’s no better choice than The Celtic Warrior.

With both Superstars hungry for a World Title opportunity, they each will be looking to shine on the pay-per-view stage. Is Christian just one Brogue Kick away from falling out of the World Title picture? Or, will he find a way to stop “The Great White”?

The epic showdown was created by WWE’s new Chief Operating Officer Triple H on the July 29 edition of SmackDown, in the midst of a sea of controversy surrounding the circumstances by which Christian captured his second World Title from The Viper at WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

But, ultimately, the fuse for the explosive rivalry between Christian and Randy Orton was lit just five days after Christian fulfilled a lifelong dream, winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time at Extreme Rules. Before his reign could even get off the ground, Randy Orton pinned his shoulders to the mat on the very next SmackDown and shattered his whole world. WWE’s Apex Predator then defeated his prey again in a hard-fought rematch at WWE Capitol Punishment.

Over the next several weeks, Christian’s inability to recover the illustrious title started to eat away at him. Already convinced that he could beat The Viper, he began to believe that SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, Orton and even the WWE Universe were ultimately preventing him from reclaiming what was rightfully his.

Refusing to speak directly to the WWE Universe any longer, the resentful Christian soon enlisted the help of lawyers to correct what he believed was an unlevel playing field. This led to a special condition in the contract for his World Heavyweight Championship Match with Orton at Money in the Bank: If Orton was disqualified, Christian would automatically be awarded the title.

Once such a stipulation was in place, controversy seemed inevitable. And when Christian spat in the face of his adversary during their pay-per-view battle, Orton would be unable to stop his uncontrollable rage. Hitting his No.1 contender with a low blow, The Viper was immediately disqualified. And regardless of what the stunned WWE Universe thought, Christian once again held the title in his grasp.

No matter how Christian won the World Heavyweight Championship, no one can deny his tremendous ability in the ring. But, with no a disqualification clause to stand behind, can he overcome the uncontainable anger of Randy Orton at the Biggest Event of the Summer? Will the third time be the charm? Maybe, but at Money in the Bank he is counting on more than just luck.

To bolster his chances, Christian had his legal team include a special clause in the match contract. If Orton is disqualified, or if there is a bad referee call, Christian immediately becomes the new champion.

The clause stems from Christian’s continual claims that he has been “screwed” out of the title. At Extreme Rules, he claims that his leg was clearly under the ropes when Orton was declared the winner. Then just when he thought he thought he earned a World Title opportunity in a tag team victory on SmackDown, General Manager Theodore Long said not so fast. It wasn’t until Christian & Mark Henry beat Orton & Kane in a tag match that Christian finally earned his match with Orton.

But even after solidifying his No. 1 contender spot, Christian’s quest hit another road block. On the July 1 edition of SmackDown, Sheamus crashed the World Title contract signing, brutalized both Christian and Orton, and tore up their match contract. With no contract and doubts about whether the World Title Match would even take place, Christian revealed the next week that a newly signed contract did indeed exist – including the special clause.

Christian tasted ultimate glory for a brief moment in time, only to have it snatched away as quickly as it had entered his grasp. Just five days after he captured the vacant World Heavyweight Championship in a heroic match with Alberto Del Rio at Extreme Rules, GM Theodore Long and the WWE Universe chose Randy Orton to face him in his first title defense on SmackDown. Later that night, The Viper reigned supreme over the new champion, crushing his lifelong dream without warning.

The two Superstars would then face-off in a championship rematch at WWE Over the Limit. But, in a classic bout that could have gone either way, WWE’s Apex Predator once again triumphed, leaving Christian to pick up the pieces. Still, the hard-fought battle made one thing clear to the defeated grappler: He knew he could beat Randy Orton.

Competing in a World Title No. 1 Contender’s Match against Sheamus and Mark Henry the following week on SmackDown, Christian had The Celtic Warrior pinned. But, because the referee was busy getting Orton out of the ring – after The Viper executed a retaliatory RKO on Henry – he could not make the official three-count. Moments later, Sheamus delivered the big boot and captured the victory instead, once more ripping away Christian’s hope of facing Orton at the top of the mountain.

When Orton faced Sheamus for the championship one week later, Teddy Long made Christian the special guest referee. That proved to be too much for Captain Charisma to take. Moments after Orton retained, Christian stunned the WWE Universe, attacking him with the World Title.

The next week, the resentment-driven Christian renounced his association with his Peeps and made a title match with The Viper. He then attacked Orton yet again, allowing Sheamus to capture a non-title victory over the World Heavyweight Champion.

After a 17-year career, Captain Charisma finally achieved a lifelong dream by winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. But, that dream would soon become a nightmare.

In an stunning decision made by SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long – and the WWE Universe – Christian found himself defending his title against Randy Orton just days after Extreme Rules. And with one well-timed RKO, The Viper wrested the title from Christian.

Although visibly shaken by the loss, Christian quickly rebounded.

The following week on SmackDown, Christian was already full of confidence, declaring he could beat Orton when he’s at 100 percent. With the title vacant, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long arranged for a No. 1 Contender’s World Heavyweight Championship Battle Royal. The winner would face Alberto Del Rio, who already earned a match with Edge at Extreme Rules by beating Christian in a No. 1 Contender’s Match on the April 8 edition of SmackDown.

Surviving the 20-man war was none other than Edge’s lifelong friend, Christian, who eliminated Jack Swagger.

Clearly, Edge and Del Rio do not like each other. However, the disdain between Christian and The Mexican Aristocrat is downright palpable. After all, it was Del Rio who put Captain Charisma out of commission last fall with a torn pectoral muscle due to a session in his Cross Armbreaker.

Del Rio has continuously claimed that it is his destiny to win the World Title. However, what about Christian? Some would argue that he has been preparing his entire career for this moment. What would be more appropriate than following in the footsteps of his lifelong friend, The Ultimate Opportunist, in his specialty – a Ladder Match?

Although the match between Edge and Del Rio is sure to be a classic, it almost did not happen. Thanks to the actions of Dolph Ziggler and then-”acting” SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero, The Master Manipulator was stripped of his World Title and fired for using an illegal Spear. But, once the true GM Theodore Long returned, Edge was immediately reinstated and won his title back.

Then, just days before WrestleMania, it was announced that Christian would be in Edge’s corner, and big Brodus Clay would be in Del Rio’s. What will these potent reinforcements mean for the future of the World Title?
